  •  Algebra
    • Interactive Algebra -- an interactive practice page with lessons on equations, factoring, and graphing. Requires JavaScript and Java. (Grades 6+)

  • Ask Dr. Math -- a project where Swarthmore College math students answer mathematics question from K-12 students.
  • Box-and-Whisker Plot -- A concise explanation of a box-and-whisker plot.
  • Calculators/Converters
    • The Abacus -- The Art of Calculating with Beads. Learn about the Abacus and the art of calculating with beads. You can also operate the abacus that is displayed on the page.
    • The Texas Instruments Graphing Calculators -- Classroom activities, professional development opportunities, and product information are just a click away. See why TI educational technology is the most appropriate, best-supported technology solution for your classroom.
    • Martindale's "Calculators On-line Center" -- is the most extensive collection we've found of online tools for calculation and conversion.
    • MathPad -- is a general purpose graphing scientific calculator for the Macintosh. It uses a text window rather than simulating buttons on a hand held calculator. This live scratchpad interface allows you to see and edit your entire calculation. Formulas can be entered directly and different values can be plugged in for easy "what if" calculating.
    • Roman Numeral Conversion -- Enter an Arabic number less than 4000, and receive the equivalent Roman numeral.
  • Catalog of Mathematics Resources -- on WWW and the Internet
  • Clever Games for Clever People -- Many of us have used logic and numbers to explain how to win a game, but mathematician John Conway was not about to do something so ordinary. In this book he takes that idea and turns it inside out by showing how games can be used to describe numbers.
  • College Preparatory Mathematics: -- CPM is a complete math program for high school students who want to learn the basics and more. Under the careful guidance of their teachers, students explore the major concepts of high school mathematics in a variety of ways designed to provide them with several means to solve problems.
  • California Online Mathematics Education Times (COMET) is a weekly news journal designed for mathematics educators and educational leaders. COMET features useful and timely information on current issues in education, web resources, professional events and opportunities, and news articles from California and across the nation.
  • The Cornell Theory Center Math and Science Gateway -- for secondary school students and educators provides an easy starting point for locating science and mathematics resources on the web. It is tailored to the needs of students in grades 9 through 12, with links to resources in subject areas such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, computing, the environment, health, mathematics, and physics.
  • Daily Lesson Plans from the New York Times -- Regularly updated collection of mathematics lessons based on stories appearing in the New York Times. Most lessons are for grades 6-12.
  • Dictionaries
  • E-Math -- A Guide to E-mail Based Volunteer Programs Designed to Help Students Master Challenging Mathematics, Science and Technology.
  • Electronic Journals -- is a listing of scholarly mathematics journals available via the Internet
  • Euclid's Elements -- form one of the most beautiful and influential works of science in the history of humankind. Its beauty lies in its logical development of geometry and other branches of mathematics. This site uses Java Applets to illustrate the concepts
  • Famous Curves -- Click on the name of a curve to see its history and some of its associated curves.
  • Finding Surface Area of a Sphere -- This lesson link works great with the SCORE Math lesson and activities "Earatosthenes Measures of the Earth's Circumference." The lesson is hands-on and requires the students to find the circumference of a ball.
  • Flashcards for Kids -- an online flashcard page with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Fraction Help -- Fractions FAQ from the Math Forum
  • Frank Potter's Science Gems: Mathematics -- a varied collection of links to all levels and areas of mathematics
  • Global Grocery List -- generates a living, growing table of peer collected information to be used by classes of all levels and subject areas. Lists have been used to enhance math , science, social studies, health, and writing instruction. They can be used to practice calculations, as an information basis to draw conclusions, and as a springboard for writing assignments.
  • Greek Mathematics -- and its Modern Heirs
  • Houghton Mifflin Mathematics -- division has set up a web page designed for math educators, math students, and their parents.
  • HTML Math Overview -- Things are happening with HTML Math! After more than a year of in-depth study and experimentation, the HTML Math working group has released a working draft
  • Mathematical Markup Language -- A sampling of technical typesetting efforts on the web. Activities of the HTML Math Work Groups.
  • Math Online -- KQED's Center for Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) is proud to present a series of lessons for K-12 students and teachers based on math and including online and video resources
  • MacTutor History of Mathematics archive
  • Knot a Braid of Links -- Your Rough Guide to Mathematics on the Web. This site weekly posts links to interesting mathematics web sites for all ages.
  • MathMagic -- is a K-12 telecommunications project developed in El Paso, Texas. It provides strong motivation for students to use computer technology while increasing problem-solving strategies and communications skills. MathMagic posts challenges in each of four categories (K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 ) to trigger each registered team to pair up with another team and engage in a problem-solving dialog. When an agreement has been reached, one solution is posted for every pair.
  • Math and Children's Literature -- This portion of Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site focuses on children's literature books that have a connection to mathematics.
  • The Math Forum: -- a collection of Internet Mathematics resources including projects and lessons.
  • Math Websites and Resources for Teachers -- part of a larger site maintained by two professors at CSU Northridge. Much like SCORE but not standards aligned.

  • Mathematics Archives -- WWW from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
  • Mathematics Archives - K-12 Internet Sites -- is a well annotated list of links both commercial and non-commercial mathematics resources.
  • Mathematics Resource Pointers
  • MegaMathematics -- The MegaMath project is intended to bring unusual and important mathematical ideas to elementary school classrooms so that young people and their teachers can think about them together.
  • Multiplication Concentration Game (requires Java)
  • Mathematics -- collaborative project, using the concept of as the focus, is a home page on the WWW. This multidisciplinary project which includes math, history, English and thinking skills is designed for fifth through eighth graders. It will allow students to discover the approximate value of , an irrational number, using measurement and reporting the data, applying formulas, problem solving and participating in a collaborative project utilizing Internet resources. Students will also explore the history of , using Internet references.
  • SuperKids Math Worksheet Generator -- make your own math drill sheets. Select the operation, the maximum and minimum numbers and the site generates ready to print worksheets.
  • Software
  • Statistics
    • AP Statistics on the Web -- Comprehensive statistics resources include information on textbooks, reference materials, software, TI calculator programs, and the College Board. The site also features discussions on apstat-l and a selection of online tests.
    • Statistics Every Writer Should Know -- An introduction to statistics for journalists and other writers.
    • UCLA Statistics Homepage -- An extensive collection of statistics resources including case studies, statistics people, and much more.
  • Tessellation Tutorials -- A series of tutorials by Math Forum Teacher Associate Suzanne Alejandre that teach students how to tessellate (somewhat in the style of M.C. Escher) using HyperCard or HyperStudio, ClarisWorks, LogoWriter, templates, or simple straightedge and compass. These tessellation lessons include units incorporating rotations and glide reflections, a section called "Where's the Math" that elaborates on some underlying geometric principles, Historical and Geographical Connections, comments contributed by others who have enjoyed using this tutorial, and samples of student work.
  • Visual Addition of Two Single Digit Numbers -- a sophisticated application of a Java Applet for primary students. Be sure to read the directions before trying the applet.
  • What should I look for in a math classroom? -- A math classroom should provide practical experience in mathematical skills that are a bridge to the real world of jobs and adult responsibilities. This means going beyond memorization into a world of reasoning and problem solving. This article offers suggestions on student and teacher actions to look for.
