School, of the East Irondequoit Central School District, in Rochester, NY.
- Balanced
Assessment in Mathematics is a National Science Foundation project
charged with developing new approaches to the assessment of mathematical competence
in the elementary and secondary grades. This project has created a type of
mathematics assessment that contrasts sharply with traditional forms of testing,
which rely primarily on multiple-choice questions. Balanced Assessment focuses
on rich, mathematically complex work that requires students to create a plan,
make a decision, or solve a problem -- and then justify their thinking.
