SCORE - Mathematics

  • Box-and-Whisker Plot -- A concise explanation of a box-and-whisker plot.
  • College Preparatory Mathematics: CPM is a complete math program for high school students who want to learn the basics and more. Under the careful guidance of their teachers, students explore the major concepts of high school mathematics in a variety of ways designed to provide them with several means to solve problems.
  • Famous Curves -- Click on the name of a curve to see its history and some of its associated curves.
  • Finding Surface Area of a Sphere -- This lesson link works great with the SCORE Math lesson and activities "Earatosthenes Measures of the Earth's Circumference." The lesson is hands-on and requires the students to find the circumference of a ball.
  • Interactive Algebra - an interactive practice page with lessons on equations, factoring, and graphing. Requires JavaScript and Java. (Grades 6+)
  • MathMagic is a K-12 telecommunications project developed in El Paso, Texas. It provides strong motivation for students to use computer technology while increasing problem-solving strategies and communications skills. MathMagic posts challenges in each of four categories (K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 ) to trigger each registered team to pair up with another team and engage in a problem-solving dialog. When an agreement has been reached, one solution is posted for every pair.
  • The MegaMath site is intended to bring unusual and important mathematical ideas to elementary school classrooms so that young people and their teachers can think about them together. Activities included in this well-designed site are supported by background information, concepts, materials, and more. These lessons cover all the strands and grade levels K-8.
  • Multiplication Concentration Game (requires Java)
  • Mathematics collaborative project, using the concept of as the focus, is a home page on the WWW. This multidisciplinary project which includes math, history, English and thinking skills is designed for fifth through eighth graders. It will allow students to discover the approximate value of , an irrational number, using measurement and reporting the data, applying formulas, problem solving and participating in a collaborative project utilizing Internet resources. Students will also explore the history of , using Internet references.
  • Roman Numeral Conversion -- Enter an Arabic number less than 4000, and receive the equivalent Roman numeral.
  • Teaching Mathematics in the Middle and Secondary Schools - 40 lesson plans created by teachers from Florida. Covers grades 4-12. Lessons contain detailed explanations and directions. A number of the lessons are integrated with other disciplines. NCTM standards are documented. Some lessons utilize websites. Projects require practical use of math in real life situations. More than 30 lessons with fairly simple preparation. Lessons require 1 to 2 days.
  • Tessellation Tutorials A series of tutorials by Math Forum Teacher Associate Suzanne Alejandre that teach students how to tessellate (somewhat in the style of M.C. Escher) using HyperCard or HyperStudio, ClarisWorks, LogoWriter, templates, or simple straightedge and compass. These tessellation lessons include units incorporating rotations and glide reflections, a section called "Where's the Math" that elaborates on some underlying geometric principles, Historical and Geographical Connections, comments contributed by others who have enjoyed using this tutorial, and samples of student work.
  • Zona Land: Graphing X-Y Scaling -- Interactive web page for demonstrating the interaction of the X and Y axis on graphs.
